Arsenal has been dealt a blow ahead of their clash against Leeds United, as midfielder Thomas Partey has suffered an injury while on international duty with Ghana.
Partey missed Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola on Monday due to the injury.
The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes for Ghana against Angola on Thursday and came through the match unscathed.
However, images that emerged on Monday showed Partey’s right thigh heavily strapped, with two physios tending to him.
Arsenal physio Simon Murphy accompanied Partey to Ghana to monitor his fitness given his injury record during his time at the club.
According to reports, Partey has not suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that kept him out of four games earlier this season.
He will fly back to London for tests today and is likely to be in contention to feature against Leeds this weekend.
Manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping that Partey’s injury is not serious and that he will be available for selection.
However, with a crucial game against Liverpool on the horizon, the Gunners may choose to err on the side of caution and not risk one of their most important players.
If Partey is unable to play against Leeds, Jorginho is likely to come in as a replacement in midfield.
Arsenal’s medical team will make a decision later in the week on whether Partey can feature against Leeds, as they aim to continue their quest for their first Premier League title since 2004.
