On Saturday, Bournemouth’s Phillip Billing scored after 9.11 seconds at Emirates Stadium, stunning Premier League leaders Arsenal.
It was the second-fastest goal at the start of a game in Premier League history, behind Shane Long’s 7.69 seconds for Southampton against Watford in April 2019.
Here are the five fastest goals ever scored in the Premier League, recorded by Opta:
1. Shane Long: Watford v Southampton, April 2019 – 7.69 seconds
2. Phillip Billing: Arsenal v Bournemouth, March 2023 – 9.11 seconds
3. Ledley King: Bradford City v Tottenham, December 2000 – 9.82 seconds
4. Alan Shearer: Newcastle United v Manchester City, January 2003 – 10.52 seconds
5. Christian Eriksen: Tottenham v Manchester United, January 2018 – 10.54 seconds
Long’s goal involved a glorious flick, while Billing’s was a close-range shot after Arsenal let Bournemouth attack from the start.
King powered forward for his goal, while Shearer closed down the goalkeeper’s attempted clearance and tapped into an empty net.
Eriksen took advantage of some generous defending to slot past a shell-shocked David de Gea.
